Description

The Ziss ZC-II CO2 Generator produces CO2 by mixing citric acid and baking soda. The unit consists of two chambers. The upper chamber gets filled with citric acid and water and the solutions are dispensed into the lower chamber via a small opening at the bottom. The lower chamber contains baking soda and water. Reaction of the two solutions produces CO2. The speed of the CO2 production can be regulated by the speed of dispensing the solution from the upper chamber using the speed controller (middle knob). The CO2 is dispensed into an aquarium via Inlet Port (knob with the black cap). The unit also contains a Pressure Relief Safety Valve (knob with the clear cap).

Instructions:

  • Unscrew the Upper Chamber from the Lower Chamber
  • Unscrew the cap from the Inlet Port (knob with the black cap), make sure that the other knobs are tightly screwed in
  • Mix 160g of citric acid with 145ml of water and pour it via the opening in the Inlet Port using a funnel
  • Screw the knob from the Inlet Port back.
  • Add 200g of baking soda into the Lower Chamber
  • Pour 200ml of water into the Lower Chamber but do not mix the solution
  • Screw the Upper Chamber onto the Lower Chamber
  • Attached the tubing with the diffuser onto the knob of the Inlet Port
  • Slightly open the Speed Control Valve (the middle knob)
  • Look through the Lower Chamber and you should see a drop forming on the top
  • Adjust the speed of the drop falling into the solution via the Speed Control Valve. To generate approximately 1 bubble of CO2 per second, the speed should be set to 1 drop per 6 minutes (it can be a bit time consuming and frustrating to get it initially setup correctly)
  • It will take approximately 15-30 minutes to build enough pressure in the lower chamber to see the CO2 travelling into the diffuser in the tank
  • Monitor the CO2 production using the bubble counter in the diffuser.
  • If everything is setup correctly, the generator should produce 1 bubble of CO2 per second for 30 days.

Recommendations:

  • We recommend to presoak the fabric of the diffuser prior to the first use to obtain small CO2 bubbles
  • Do not shake the unit to speed up CO2 production
  • Do not use the unit with a check valve
