Description
Biohome Ultra is the same filter media as Biohome Maxi but it doesn't contain additional trace elements, which helps speed up colonisation of the media by beneficial bacteria. It is suitable for sumps, large canister filters and trickle filters.
The surface area of the media supports growth of both aerobic (nitrifying) and anaerobic bacteria (de-nitrifying), removing not only ammonia (NH3) and nitrites (NO2) but also nitrates (NO3).
Because the available surface area of Biohome is much larger than that of other media, using Biohome filter media in your filter will increase efficiency of your filter and will reduce need for water changes. Please make sure to provide sufficient mechanical filtration to prevent Biohome media from clogging with debris.
This biological filter media is perfect for canister filters and power filters.
1kg of media is suggested for each 25 gallons of water to reduce nitrates to 5-10pmm in ordinary community tanks.
2kg of media per 25 gallons is recommended for heavily stocked aquariums with african cichlids or predators to see reduction in nitrates.
The filter media is shipped with complementary filter starter gel balls that are full of beneficial bacteria.

If you are wondering if this Media is any good stop wondering now. I have had my 90 Gallon up and running for almost 3 years now and I started with this media (bought from Angelfins). It was quick to build up BB and I have had at least three long power outages over the time I have been running my filters and I have NEVER had a cycle crash on me. I attribute this to Biohome media. I run a 4 stage canister and have two levels of this media, one package was enough to fill both trays. Highly recommended

Biological media is anything inert that provides housing for nitrifying bacteria that break down nitrogenous pollutants to a less toxic form. They claim the BIOHOME is very porous and should do the job. I'm not sure how to test it.
