Biohome Biogravel 1kg

Biohome Biogravel is the newest Biohome filter media and because of it's small size it is an ideal biological media for internal, powerfilters or as a substrate for undergravel filters. It has a large surface area (similar in size to Biohome Standard and Biohome Plus), which supports growth of aerobic (nitrifying) bacteria that are responsible for removing ammonia (NH₃) and nitrites (NO₂) in the aquarium.

Because the available surface area of Biohome is much larger than that of other media, using Biohome filter media in your filter will increase efficiency of your filter and will reduce the need for water changes. Please make sure to provide sufficient mechanical filtration to prevent Biohome media from clogging with debris.

4kg of Biohome Biogravel is required to create a 2 inch layer of gravel in a 10 gallon tank (20" W x 10" L).

Biohome has a 42% porosity and a specific surface area of 7300 ft² per kg.

Biohome is a sintered glass filter media made of heat treated silica sand. It can be used as a biological media in canister filters, power filters, internal filters and sumps. It has an enormous surface area, which allows it to house large amounts of beneficial bacteria in a very small space. The surface of the media gets colonized by two types of aerobic nitrifying bacteria - Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter. The first converts ammonia (NH3) into less toxic nitrites (NO2) and the latter consumes nitrites (NO2) and excretes nitrates (NO3). Biohome contains a protected labyrinth of tunnels that are occupied by anaerobic bacteria (denitrifying bacteria), which breaks down nitrates (NO3) into free nitrogen.

The filter media is shipped with complementary filter starter gel balls that are full of beneficial bacteria.
