Youkihi Medaka Ricefish (Oryzias latipes var. Youkihi)

This time, all of the fishes were alive and in good shape. I'm very happy. They are beautiful and have a good size. Specially nice in an aquarium with black background.

I ordered 5 of these beautiful fish and sadly I had 2 of them die of on me, I messaged angelfins just asking if anyone had any problems like this, they sent me a refund.

First off, I love medaka! Rice fish are small and peaceful. I have some in a tank with scuds and blue neos. While rice fish will gladly snack on their own eggs I've never caught them scud or shrimp hunting. Easy to feed, they take anything.

I really like the salmon/orange colour of this fish. I've noticed my egg bearing female is really short and squat. I've only seen 1 female at a time carrying eggs so it's hard to tell if it's always the same one or not. She was carrying eggs within about 2 weeks. I'm guessing the males are the longer fish in the group. I had heard that Youkihi was a very popular colour but difficult to come by in the US. I figured we wouldn't see this one in Canada for a while.

If you've never raised rice fish pick any one and try it out. They won't eat your shrimps or shrimplets. Very easy to care for too.
