Because the available surface area of Biohome is much larger than that of other media, using Biohome filter media in your filter will increase the efficiency of your filter and will reduce the need for water changes. Please make sure to provide sufficient mechanical filtration to prevent Biohome media from clogging with debris.

Biohome contains a protected labyrinth of tunnels that are occupied by anaerobic bacteria (denitrifying bacteria), which break down nitrates (NO3) into free nitrogen.
