Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 is the most easily soluble variant of our Sulawesi Mineral range. It buffers the pH at approximately 7.5 and is used for remineralizing RO water, rainwater, or fully desalinated water.
Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 contains all essential minerals and trace elements that well-known shrimp species from this region require for their health, wellbeing, and colouration. Cardinal shrimp (Caridina dennerli) breeders have been using it very successfully. This mineral salt promotes the microbial regeneration of biological filter substrates.
Raises carbonate and total hardness at a ratio of KH/°dH = 0.42/1.0.
Note
Shrimp originating from Lake Towuti on Sulawesi (e.g., the freshwater harlequin shrimp (Caridina woltereckae) or the red-banded shrimp (Caridina striata)) remain very difficult to breed in captivity. Consequently, we (Frank and Carsten Logemann) returned to the Ancient Lakes on Sulawesi in 2011 (following our initial trip in 2008) to examine the habitat conditions and collect water samples for laboratory analysis.
The results of these analyses reveal fundamental differences in the water chemistry of the Malili Lakes compared with typical lacustrine waters. We had to completely reformulate the mineral composition; the result of these efforts is Sulawesi Mineral 8.5.
Less sensitive Sulawesi shrimp, such as the freshwater cardinal shrimp (Caridina dennerli), can be kept and bred successfully using either Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 or Sulawesi Mineral 8.5. For more susceptible shrimp species, we aim to achieve long-term breeding success through the use of Sulawesi Mineral 8.5, which is virtually identical to the water chemistry of Lake Towuti.
Instructions for use
Add Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 to water outside of your aquarium. It will dissolve almost completely within seconds, and the water is ready for immediate use. We recommend matching the temperature of the new water to that of your tank. Ensure you add any undissolved particles to your tank as well. Close the container securely after every use.
Dosage
RO water, rainwater, or fully desalinated water is remineralized with Sulawesi Mineral 7.5 until a hardness of approximately 6 °dH and/or a conductance of approximately 270 +/- 40 µS (microsiemens) is reached. This corresponds to one slightly heaped measuring spoon (approximately 3.5 g) per 15 litres (approximately 4 gallons) of water. Measuring spoon enclosed.
