It can be distinguished from the Harlequin Rasbora (Trigonostigma heteromorpha) and Lambchop Rasbora (Trigonostigma espei) by its much smaller and narrower black wedge, which is outlined by a brilliant orange "glow" running along the body. Harlequin Rasboras have a much larger, solid black triangular patch covering much of the rear half of the body, while Lambchop Rasboras display a broader wedge that resembles the shape of a lamb chop. The Glowlight Rasbora is also generally slimmer and more delicately patterned than either of its close relatives.
