Description

Replenish™ is a proprietary blend of salts designed to replenish physiologically relevant minerals removed by reverse osmosis or deionizing filtration. Replenish™ restores General Hardness (GH) using a balanced blend of both “soft” (sodium, potassium) and “hard” (calcium, magnesium) salts. Restoration of mineral content is essential, as a complete lack of minerals will result in osmotic stress in those species whose osmoregulation systems are adapted to a mineralized environment. Severe osmotic stress can result in osmotic shock, which leads to rapid death.

Osmotic Stress and Shock

This occurs when fish are kept in water with inadequate mineral levels. Osmotic stress affects, most seriously, fish whose natural habitat is rich in minerals and who are kept in an aquarium with low mineral levels, as the osmotic gradient between the internal fluids of the fish and the surrounding water increases. Such fish have less effective osmoregulation than those physiologically adapted to water with low mineral levels; consequently, they are unable to cope with the burden on their osmoregulation.

Osmotic shock can result from a breakdown in osmoregulation due to an inappropriate chemical composition of the water. It can also be caused by increased skin permeability resulting from disease or trauma. Osmoregulation enables fish to maintain the proper balance of salt and water in their bodies, which is necessary to create optimal conditions for various physiological and biochemical processes. In all fish species, osmoregulation evolved to enable them to maintain the proper balance of salt and water in the chemical environments of their natural habitats. If osmoregulation is disturbed due to adverse conditions (osmotic stress) or a sudden change in water chemistry (osmotic shock), fish may not be able to physiologically cope. Chronic osmotic stress can eventually result in the fish’s death, and osmotic shock can cause death very quickly.

Directions

Add 5 mL (1 capful) of Replenish™ to 40 L (10 US gallons) to raise GH by 1 meq/L (2.8 dGH). The recommended restoration level for DI or RO water is 1–2 meq/L, which is 5 mL per each 20–40 L (5–10 US gallons).

Guaranteed Analysis

Calcium (min) 13.00%
Calcium (max) 14.00%
Magnesium (min) 1.20%
Potassium (min) 0.12%
Sodium (min) 0.60%
Sodium (max) 0.70%

Ingredients: calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, sodium chloride, potassium chloride

CAUTION: Causes serious eye irritation. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with skin.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Yes, you can order fish along with dry goods. However, if the dry goods are heavy or bulky, it may be more cost-effective to place two separate orders. In that case, you could ship the dry goods using a slower, more affordable shipping option.

If your order has not shipped yet, you can email us your correct shipping address, and we will update it for you.

On weekdays, if we receive your order before 2 p.m., it will be shipped out the same day. Dry goods are shipped from Monday to Friday. Orders that include livestock are only shipped from Monday to Thursday to avoid transit over the weekend.

At checkout, you can leave your request in the comments box.

Our locker boxes are located in the foyer of our store at 230 Hanlon Creek Blvd, Unit 107, Guelph. The room is accessible from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
