I bought this filter to replace an ancient Marineland filter that finally died after a power outage. It was very easy to set up and runs quietly - the water flowing is louder than the motor. I love the self-priming feature and the adjustable flow. The filter came with foam and biomedia, and I added a bag of Purigen. My water looks very clean and the fish are happy!

Great Filter

I use this filter to generate a lot of flow and water turnover for my hillstream loaches. It's one of the quietest for the volume it handles, provided you set it up right (it makes some weird noises if you don't put everything in it's right place after cleaning or otherwise taking it apart.
My one warning is that you may want to cover the slots that are open if you have small fish/shrimp or a lot of small plant pieces that could get caught in it. I just fixed some plastic mesh to it with rubber bands and have had no issues.
I highly recommend this if you want a really powerful HOB with a lot of space in the basket for media. It's very roomy and I could put tons of filter sponge and biomedia in there, and my water has never been cleaner!

This is an excellent filter which disassembles easily for full cleaning of pump and impeller.
tip: when cleaning out the filter basket siphon out the grungle from the reservoir.
